The 3rd Annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Lacrosse Classic will be held from Friday-Sunday, Feb. 6-8. A three-day regional event, the classic features 27 varsity, junior varsity and middle school boys’ teams.

The event has grown at a pace which matches the sport throughout the country. In 2007, the Allstate Sugar Bowl Lacrosse Classic had eight teams; last season, that jumped to 15 squads; while this year’s event has reached maximum capacity with 27 teams scheduled to be in action. Recognized as one of the fastest growing team sports in the United States, lacrosse has seen youth participation grow over 500 percent since 1999 to nearly 250,000. No sport has grown faster at the high school level over the last 10 years and there are now an estimated 200,000 high school players. The high-speed game is also a fan favorite, drawing crowds of as many as 50,000 for NCAA Final Four games.

High schools scheduled to have teams in action at this year’s Allstate Sugar Bowl event include New Orleans area squads from Brother Martin High School, St. Paul’s High School, Archbishop Rummel High School and Jesuit High School. Lafayette High School and Comeaux High from Lafayette will be in action as well as Baton Rouge Catholic. Shreveport will be represented by Byrd High School and the Storm Lacrosse Club, while Mississippi contributes the Ocean Springs Lacrosse Club to the event. Also participating is a U-15 team from the Ithaca Lacrosse Club, Ithaca, NY. All of those teams will be looking to knock off two-time defending champion Klein High School from Houston.

The event opens with the Premier Lacrosse Clinic on Friday, Feb. 6, a free event which features professional lacrosse standouts Spencer Ford, Liam Banks and former All-American Jordan Harris.

In addition to competition prizes and giveaways throughout the tournament, there will also be a Shoot & Score Arcade presented by Warrior, a 2-on-2 Mini Lacrosse Challenge presented by Brine and an autograph session with the Major League Lacrosse stars.
